Lesson 11: Teaching Machines to Count
Binary Coded Decimal
This is one of over 50 instructional packets currently available from the Technology Preparatory Program (Tech-PreP). These packets are being designed to provide students with a basic to more advance level of preparation to enter into the study of modern technologies within K-16 systems of education.
Binary Coded Decimal or the Base Two Numbers System have been all but forgotten in the curriculum development circles of today's secondary education systems. This is very puzzling to me since there are almost no places on earth where one (1s) and zeros (0s) doesn't play a pivotal role in our computerized societies. Tech-PreP has created this lesson to begin the process of introducing this system of counting to students to place them on the road to learning this 21st Century version of our ABCs.
Lessons to Come - The sample of this lesson includes a list of the objectives of all the packets offered in this module. I've used the operational experience I gained while serving in the USAF as a supervisor and trainer of Signals Analysts to create a series of self directed and connective lessons that will gradually build upon a student's current understanding of their technological world, while increasing their ability to focus on detail, follow instructions and increase their deductive reasoning skills.
